MARLIN Design was appointed to improve the accommodation at this 1950s built 3 bedroomed semi detached house in Bishop's Stortford. In this particular development many of the houses have been extended to two storeys on the side and tight up against the boundary lines. Unfortunately due to a change in the planning laws, this is now not allowed, as a minimum of 1.0m is required between the flank wall and boundary line at first floor level. This then stops the terracing effect created by building tight to the boundary. Our knowledge of the planning laws allowed the client to be able to gain planning approval at the first attempt to be able to add a first floor family Bathroom, substantially increase the third bedroom and provide a substantial open plan ground floor living space. This project has brought a tired 1950s semi into the 21st Century and given the clients a family home fit for many years to come.
